Despite reports of current UFC middleweight champion still recuperating from recent elbow surgery, the organization is still planning on having ‘The Spider’ face fellow Brazilian Vitor Belfort for his next title defense. As ‘The Phenom’ himself has also said that the bout will still take place at some point in the first quarter of 2010, but even though Silva is not too pleased with facing Belfort. Vitor claims that he did not ask for this fight, the UFC offered it to him.

While during a video interview for UOL in Sao Paulo, Brazil Belfort talks about how his friendship with Silva has gone down by the way side.

“Anderson became sad with this fight and I haven’t talked to him for a long time. I never challenged him, or anyone else. It’s not my style. I always did my job with excellence and the mountain that is in front of me is the mountain I have to climb up. I never chose it and won’t be doing so now,“ he said.

“I never had the idea of taking what belongs to the others, my dream is to achieve what is rightfully mine. If it is God’s wish, I’m going to overcome whatever is ahead. The UFC owners want this match to take place and it will happen in the first quarter of 2010.”

Silva has said numerous times that he is not friends with Belfort and saying that how could he one day train with his teammates Rodrigo and Rogerio Nogueira one day at the Black House and then go on to fight him for his title as to where Belfort really has not asked for the fight it was UFC brass that has wanted to put this fight together since his arrival from the now defunct Affliction promotion.

But, once this fight does become officially announced by the UFC, expect words from Silva and see how Belfort goes about it at that point in time and to see how calm he can remain until fight time. Stay tuned!
