Aldo punches Brown

New WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo took his title from Mike Brown by Knockout, in dominating fashion at WEC 44 and made it look easy. Many observers feel Aldo has the potential to wipe out all of his competition in the WEC 145 pound division and make a case as a top pound for pound fighter in the future, which would set up “Super fights” against other champions.

In a interview with the Mano a Mano Blog and URDirt.com translated the interview, Aldo confirmed he has interest in fighting UFC 155 pound champion BJ Penn. Aldo spoke about Penn’s performance at UFC 107 against Diego Sanchez, saying that the “Prodigy” is in a moment right now.

“I think BJ is a guy who’s in the moment of it”, Aldo said, ”he trained well and has the gas at the end of the day. There were people who thought he would not be able to for fight five rounds, but he fought very well. He’s very well trained and he is doing everything right. It is very difficult to beat him”.

When Aldo was asked about speculation from fans that he would be a solid competition for BJ Penn in a fight he agreed, but warned he must successfully defend his title several time before he can begin to focus on the UFC lightweight champion.

UFC 107 BJ Penn“I think that’s good. The people around you talking about me, that’s saying I have chance to win it. I think that’s all great, but back to reality, first I must defend my belt and prove several times that I am the champion. Perhaps in future I can fight him and win.”

When Aldo was asked what his game-plan would be in a future fight against Penn, he did not hesitate to say he would attempt to exchange strikes with the UFC lightweight champion.

“I do what I like, which is starting up and exchange with him. During the fight. I could switch strategies, but I would trade with him.”

If anyone saw Jose Aldo’s punch, kick and flying knee combinations land on Mike Browns face, body and ribs at WEC 44, you know he actually appears as if he has the striking skills to stand with Penn. How the fight would play out is a different story, cause Penn would have a definitive power advantage.

Penn would also have a decent weight advantage, but Aldo would have the speed to balance the fight. I don’t know about you, but this is a fight I would like to see Zuffa make in the upcoming year.

Aldo is overhyped anyone who hits a flying knee becomes the greatest striker ever cause morons hype up good strikers like James Irvin who have holes in there games

Aldo deserves the hype, he is nothing like Irvin and has a great sprawl. He beat Brown cause he could not get him on his back to neutralize his striking without being punished, that changed the fight and won it for Aldo.

The guy is not overhyped, if anything I believe he deserves a better marketing push from the WEC. Unless they are content with having their fighters look like they are second rejects compared to the UFC’s.

i think jose aldo has a great chance to be the ufc lightweight champ in the future, lets say 3 years from now. hes super young and hes probably still growin so, soon or later hes going to be too big for featherweight. as for bj, i think he only has 1-2 fights left before he moves up to welterweight so.. would be an awesome fight tho, PENN vs ALDO

Jose Aldo has a great chance of going up in weight and giving BJ a run for his money. His Muay Thai is solid and Mike Brown could not even take him down. Bj’s not really known to have good take downs and if it stays standing I say Aldo might very well KO BJ.
