With the UFC 109 fight card just a little over one month away a light heavyweight matchup has been added to the preliminary card as former WEC light heavyweight champion Brian Stann (8-2) meets Octagon newcomer Phil Davis (4-0) at the February 6, 2010 event from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The bout was made official according to the official website of the UFC earlier today.
Just a few weeks ago Phil Davis who is nicknamed ‘Mr. Wonderful’ was signed by the UFC and brings some credentials out of Penn State University in Pennsylvania as he was a four-time All-American wrestler who was a national champion back in 1997 and comes to the organization with an unblemished MMA record to the Octagon in an attempt to make a big impact as few other youngsters such as light heavyweight phenom Jon Jones.
Meanwhile Brian Stann was able to bounce back from his debut loss to Krzysztof Soszynski at UFC 97 to get back to back wins over Steve Cantwell at UFC Fight Night 19 and newcomer Rodney Wallace earlier this month at The Ultimate Fighter “Heavyweights” finale and will now look to keep his current win streak going at the expense of this up and coming fighter in Davis.
UFC 109 “Relentless” will feature a battle of Hall of Famers as Randy ‘The Natural’ Couture faces off against Mark ‘The Hammer’ Coleman in the main event live on pay-per-view.
