This Saturday night from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada the Ultimate Fighting Championship will kick off the 2010 campaign with the UFC 108 fight card where there will be a showcased lightweight bout on the main card with a returning Joe Lauzon (18-4) set to take on Sam Stout (14-5-1) who basically got in a second consecutive training camp in to prepare for a fight and is ready to take advantage of the opportunity of competing on a UFC main card in a pay-per-view slot.

In a recent interview with the Winnipeg Free Press Stout feels that Lauzon is a step up in competition due to what he brings to the table.

“I think he’s going to be my toughest fight so far, to be honest with you…He’s got an interesting style, a little bit unorthodox and difficult to train for because he’s not a typical guy. He goes for a lot of interesting submissions that most guys don’t go for, and from strange positions. And his striking is kind of wild but those guys can be dangerous. Most of my training partners are pretty technical strikers. So when you get up against a guy who’s unorthodox like that, it can throw you off a little bit.”

Just a few months ago, Stout was well prepared for a matchup with Phillipe Nover at UFC Fight Night 19 in September, but due to Nover suffering a seizure just hours prior to the bout it was scrapped as Stout was unable to get a fight in despite getting paid. However, Stout feels that with basically two training camps in he is ready for the task at hand.

“I didn’t have to recover from any injuries, I was able to keep my momentum going from the last training camp, carry it through right into this training camp. So I really feel better physically and mentally than I ever have for a fight going into this one. So I think you’re going to see the best Sam Stout you’ve ever seen in this fight against Joe Lauzon.”

In his lone Octagon appearance in 2009, Stout gained a unanimous decision victory over Matt Wiman in Montreal, Canada back at UFC 97 in the month of April and will be looking to keep it going with a big win over the former Ultimate Fighter season 5 alum in Lauzon whose only loss in 6 fights with the UFC comes to Kenny Florian back in April of 2008.
