UFC 100 is the top pay-per-view selling event of 2009, beats out Boxing for the first time  | read this item

The last few years the UFC has dominated the top ten list of the top 10 pay-per-views sold, but Boxing or the WWE’s “Wrestlemania” would always manage to produce on big fight that would top the list. Not in 2009, for the first time the UFC owned the top spot for pay-per-views sold per event.

Dave Meltzer of Yahoo! reported that UFC 100 beat out the Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto event by over 300,000 pay-per-view events sold.

“The year also marked the first in which UFC, not boxing, had the year’s most purchased event, as UFC 100 (1.6 million) topped boxing’s biggest event, Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto (1.25 million).”

In 2008 UFC 91 and 92 where second and third on that list and Wrestlemania was number one. Roy Jones Jr vs Felix Trinidad made the list at number 7, but the UFC dominate the list with 8 top 10 selections.

If Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather does not happen this year, the UFC or WWE will not have too many challengers for the top spot in 2010.
