Martin Kampmann was a win away from a shot at welterweight champion Georges St.Pierre all he needed was a win over Mike Swick at UFC 103. In a instant Kampmann’s focus changed as Swick was injured and U.K slugger Paul Daley was called in to replace the TUF 1 fighter. Kampmann was then knocked out by Daley at UFC 103 and his chances of a title shot were shot down.

In a video interview with RawVegas.TV, Kampmann spoke about taking his new opponent Jacob “Christmas” Volkmann on short notice for the injured Rory Markham.

“Well you know it sucks,” Kampmann replied ”but it’s part of the fight game. People get injured all the time and like you see for this fight card, a lot of people got injured.”

Kampmann was then asked about his loss to Paul Daley at UFC 103, he revealed he wanted another shot at the U.K fighter because he feels he did not fight smart against him.

daley_682x400_892604a[1]“I thought I should have won that fight, I think I could win that fight. I would love to fight him again and hopefully beat him. Because I think I’m a better fighter and I came in and I didn’t fight smart. I got tagged once and I started trading punches with him cause I wanted to get him back and that’s not the way to fight someone like him who’s heavy handed. I should have just eased back a little bit.”

Kampmann went on to say he felt that the fight was stopped early, but most observers felt the stoppage was justified after his legs began to wobble from Daley’s punches.

“I think they stopped it a little early too, I was defenitly hurt and rocked, but I have been rocked before and knocked down before. I have been knocked down before and come back to win.”

Kampmann was then asked about his missed opportunity for the UFC welterweight title shot. He said that he was hopeful he would be able to get another chance at Mike Swick, because they both “Fucked up” their chances at a title shot. As you know Kampmann is referring to Swick’s loss to Dan Hardy at UFC 105 by decision.

“Obviously in a loss you go down the ladder, but I will come back and hopefully a win here will keep me in the mix. Maybe, I can get a chance to fight Mike Swick again because we both fucked up in our fights. So maybe we can fight and take it from there.”

Martin Kampmann’s base is kickboxing, but he has shown he strength has always been his ground game. Against Nate Marquardt and Paul Daley he showed once he gets hit he ditches his gameplan, but not in his favor.

Kampmann will need to use his strong Jiu Jitsu against Jacob Volkmann, because he is a sharp wrestler and could take a decision on takedowns. Kampmann will need to use his sprawl and knees to make Volkmann pay for any takedown attempts at UFC 108.

A win for Kampmann will get him back on track for bigger fights that will get him in range of a title shot a year or two from now, a loss will be devastating and could come attached with a pink slip.
