Last week we informed you that StrikeForce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi had received a open invitation from UFC welterweight champion Georges St.Pierre’s trainer Firas Zahabi. We also promised to keep you up to date and we are excited to report Mousasi has indeed accepted the invitation and will be joining St.Pierre for two weeks.

Loretta Hunt of Sherdog.com got the scoop and details from the former DREAM middleweight champion.

stpierre-training-5“I am nervous being away from my family and friends for two weeks and I don’t think of it like Georges is calling me for help,” Mousasi told Sherdog.com via email. “I think he is a great athlete that wants to train with different fighters to improve himself.”

Mousasi also pointed out he also hopes to learn some of St.Pierre’s wrestling and takedown techniques, which is one of the best in the sport today.

“To be honest, I’m curious about everything, curious how he does things and if I have to say something specific that would be how he puts everything together to be able to take down opponents with ease,” wrote Mousasi.

Mousasi’s wrestling training could come in handy against the man everyone suspects will be his next opponent, the recently signed and undefeated King Mo Lawal. Mousasi also gave his thoughts on his potential undefeated challenger to his StrikeForce 205 pound title.

“He’s undefeated. He’s confident, obviously,” said Mousasi of Lawal. “He has also proven himself in wrestling, from what I’ve heard. I think he does his homework. Style-wise he matches up very well for me and I think he feels the same way about my fight style against him.”
“Basically, if he wants to take me down, he has to set the takedown with punches. I don’t see that happening,” he said. “In the clinch, I’m much better with inside boxing, with knees, kicks. I’ve never seen him kick, so I see a lot of advantages. His only advantage, basically, is the wrestling and he has good ground-and-pound, but I feel I have the same ground-and-pound, so I don’t see any advantage that he has over me.”

Mousasi and St.Pierre are two of the sports best young athletes today, both are extremely talented and well rounded. If you add in the rest of St.Pierre’s training partners at Greg Jackson’s camp during Mousasi’s visit, it appears TriStar Gym in Montreal, Canada could look like a MMA “All Star” events.

Wouldn’t you love to be a fly on that wall?
