Alistair Overeem vs Brett Rogers will be for the StrikeForce heavyweight title  | read this item

It looks like regardless of the fact that Brett Rogers lost to Fedor Emelianenko at StrikeForce’s first show on CBS, he will get his wish and fight Alistair Overeem on their May Showtime event. In case you are wondering, it may have to do with the fact Fedor’s manager Vadim Finkelstein and Fedor feel Overeem is not worthy of fighting him, nor do they feel the StrikeForce heavyweight title is anything more then a shiny medal.

Mauro Ranallo announced on the Fight Show yesterday, that despite previous reports stating their bout at the May card would be a non-title afair Overeem’s title wil be on the line when he fights Brett Rogers.

This actually makes more sense then booking a non-title fight because if Overeem would have lost to Rogers, the StrikeForce heavyweight title would lose credibility. Lets be honest, would it really make sense if Fedor and Overeem met up for their next fights and it the belt was on the line despite Overeem taking a loss in his last fight?

I am sure no one agrees with Rogers getting the title shot in the first place, so none of this makes sense to begin with. I will enjoy the fight despite the details.

@Chiggs You must be a Strikeforce nuthugger that’s a shitty title fight. You have the #1 fighter in Fedor, fighting for their organization, and he doesn’t get the title shot. I’m a mma fan through and through but Strikeforce is not even close to being on the same level as the UFC. I look forward to seeing some fights they put together but they’re like the minor leagues.
